20 Years of Digital. Zero Patience for Buzzwords.
Where I started
I'm a Birmingham native and a Davidson College grad — English major, Southern Studies concentration, which tells you a lot about me if you know Davidson and even more if you know Birmingham. I came back home and landed an internship at SouthernLiving.com at a moment when "websites" were still a fairly radical idea for magazine brands.
That led to a producer role at AOL Food and AOL Home, where I was also the liaison between AOL Time Warner and Southern Progress's magazine brands. Before most people had broadband, I was figuring out how legacy editorial brands survive — and thrive — on the internet. It turns out that question never gets old.
The MyRecipes chapter
In 2007, I was part of the founding team for MyRecipes.com — built to become the recipe hub for Southern Progress's entire portfolio: Southern Living, Cooking Light, Coastal Living, Cottage Living, Sunset, and more. We were building something from the ground up inside a legacy media company, which is exactly as complicated and exhilarating as it sounds.
In 2013, they created a new role: SEO Editor. I was the first person to ever hold it. That's when I went from "someone who understood SEO" to someone whose entire job was to think about it — every page, every headline, every piece of content at scale. It was the best possible education in how search actually works.
The decade in between
I left corporate life in 2014. I stayed home with my kids for the next decade, continuing to take on projects that interested me. I worked with Bassmaster.com, The Dakota Auburn, Shop Silvs, Gulf Star Inspection Services, Sage Construction, Elope to Fort Morgan, Beats Working Vacation Rentals, and continued freelance work for MyRecipes.com. In 2024, I began a two-year stint with HYPR Local, a marketing agency focused on creating growth engines for scaling operators and private equity firms.
The industry kept changing. I kept up. That decade of perspective is exactly what I bring to every client engagement now.
I have also been actively involved in the short-term rental industry as an owner, host, and co-host since 2021, which allows me to speak from a place of understanding when working with clients in this particular niche.
How I work
I work with small businesses that need a real digital strategy and with digital agencies that need a trusted expert to bring in on client projects. I'm direct, I call things as I see them, and I care deeply about being the kind of partner you can actually trust. Nothing makes me happier than being even a small part of your business winning.
If you want someone who will give you a real answer instead of a safe one, let's talk.
